In order to work effectively as a guide in Ladakh, individuals must adhere to specific procedures to obtain certification as a trekking or mountaineering guide recognised by the LMGA (Ladakh Mountaineering Guide Association).
After becoming a certified guide with the LMGA, it is necessary for us to be affiliated with a local tour or travel agency in order to obtain the permits required for climbing the stunning peaks of Ladakh.
Requirements:
Aadhar Card copy
2 passport size photographs
BMC / AMC (basic mountaineering course & advance mountaineering course)
Recommendation letter from a local agency registered with the ALTOA (All Ladakh Tour Operators Association)
Experience letter (detailing your experience in the field of guiding and mountaineering in general)

Once you have submitted your online application, it is necessary for you to visit the LMGA office in person to submit the hard copies of the necessary documents. Upon acceptance, you will be issued an LMGA identity card for either trekking or mountaineering guiding positions after paying the final fee of Rs. 4,150 (Rs. 4,000 for general fees and Rs. 150 for the card issuance).

Upon being approved, you will receive your physical identity card and your name will be added to the list of members on the LMGA website. The decision to assign you as a trekking guide or a mountain guide is entirely up to the LMGA, depending on your outdoor experience and achievements. Non-locals are designated as "seasonal" guides, whereas locals serve as regular guides.
By following these steps accurately, you will be able to become a certified guide in Ladakh too!
All the best,
